Stanley Community Centre
Was formed in 1964 and was the first purpose built Community Centre in Derwentside District. At that time the Centre catered not only for this area, but for the whole of former Stanley U.D. and the periphery. As a result of Durham County Council's Community Development, there was a marked increase in the number of Community Centres, Village Halls, Church Halls etc. which inevitably led to some of the public using centres closer to home. However, we still attract a very healthy number of users from a wide area with our range of activities and splendid facilities (see map and calendar of activities).
Our Centre has centrally heated, comfortable and ventilated rooms for all activities. Canteen facilities, for the benefit of the users, provide inexpensive refreshments. While excellent cleaning staff keep the Centre in immaculate condition.
It is the forefront of providing facilities for the wider community, and is currently further developing with the provision of accommodation which is accessible to members of the community with mobility problems. This includes the installation of automatic doors, a lift to the upper level, accessible toilets, a hearing loop and all room entrances have been upgraded to enable easy access.
